CENTRE FOR BIOPHOTONICS

Imaging Facility
The Centre for Biophotonics Imaging Facility provides access to a comprehensive suite of basic and advanced optical microscopes, supporting a wide range of imaging needs, from routine fluorescence to cutting-edge, high-resolution techniques.

Our facility is open to researchers from the University of Strathclyde and external visitors from academia, industry, and the third sector, offering expert support at every stage of your imaging workflow.
What we offer
• Access to Basic & Advanced Microscopy
We host a diverse range of optical imaging platforms, suitable for live-cell imaging, fluorescence microscopy, high-content imaging, and specialist biophotonics applications.

• Training & Skill Development
Users receive hands-on training in microscope operation, best-practice imaging workflows, and image-analysis tools. We aim to ensure every user can generate high-quality, reproducible data with confidence.

• Image Analysis Support
Our team provides guidance on quantitative image analysis, data handling, and software workflows to help you extract meaningful biological insight from your data.

• Collaborative Experimental Design
We offer scientific support and consultation on experimental design, sample preparation, and imaging strategy as part of collaborative research projects.

Instrumentation
We have a range of cutting-edge instrumentation,
including a Leica SP8 confocal laser scanning
microscope, upright and inverted widefield
microscopes for fixed and live cell imaging, and a
range of mesoscale imaging instrumentation in
the Mesolab. We also have software for image data
analysis, including Imaris, and expertise in-house
in using open-source and proprietary software for
image processing and image analysis.
